Port Newark cargo ship fire kills two firefighters
A cargo ship loaded with vehicles caught fire at Port Newark, New Jersey in early July 2023. Two Newark firefighters, Augusto Acabou and Wayne Brooks Jr., were killed while battling the blaze, and five others were injured. The fire burned for days before being extinguished, and coverage continued into mid-July 2023 with the firefighters' funerals and their posthumous promotions.
