Who we are
The Maritime Attention Index ("MAI", "we") publishes a daily attention index and a fortnightly email edition at maritimeattentionindex.com. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, when you subscribe — used to send you the edition you asked for. Lawful basis: consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).
- Subscription records — we use double opt-in, so we keep the record of your confirmation (timestamp and address) as evidence of consent.
- Email engagement — our email platform records standard delivery, open and click events, which we use in aggregate to improve the edition.
- Server logs — our host records the standard technical details of each request (including IP address, time, page and browser type) for security and to keep the site running. These are not used to build a profile of you or combined with anything else. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
The website itself sets no cookies and runs no advertising or cross-site tracking. We measure traffic with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without storing anything on your device. It derives only a country from your IP address and does not retain the address itself. Nothing it collects identifies you, so there is nothing here to consent to and nothing to opt out of.
Who processes it
Email is sent through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France — an EU-based processor). The website is hosted on Scaleway. Both process data under their own GDPR commitments. We never sell, rent or share the list.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe in one click from any email, and you can ask us at any time to access, correct or delete the data we hold about you. Reply to any edition to reach the editor directly. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
Retention
If you unsubscribe, your address is suppressed from sending immediately and removed from the active list. Consent records are retained only as long as required to evidence compliance.
